There may be times when you need to insert a PDF into your Joomla 2.5 article, and if you do not have a downloads manager installed than this can appear to be quite the task. But don’t worry, inserting your PDF’s into your Joomla article is easier than it looks.
If you are using Joomla 1.5 the steps are exactly the same, just your Media Manager location may be different. Just follow these steps to get yourself rolling.
Step 1: Start with your Joomla Media Manager. You can find this in your admin control panel quick icons or in Joomla 2.5 you can find this in your admin area under - content -> media manager, and in Joomla 1.5 – site -> media manager.
Step 2: To help keep your PDF’s separate create a folder, using the create folder button on the bottom right, called “pdf” or whatever you wish to name it.
Step 3: Now open your pdf folder and click the “Upload Files” button. This will allow you to select a file from your computer. Then clicking the “Start Upload” button.
Step 4: Now navigate to the article you wish to insert your pdf in. Create some text, such as “download my awesome Joomla pdf file here”, or highlight some text you wish to associate with the file and click on the cable/link icon on the toolbar.
Step 5: A popup will open, enter the following URL, substituting your information in http://www.yourdomain.com/images/pdf/yourPDFfile.pdf. To make sure that the URL is pointed correctly open a new tab and copy and paste the URL into it. It should open up your desired PDF file. Select whether you want to open the file in the same window or a new window from the “Target” drop-down menu.
Next, Click “Insert” and save your Joomla article.
You should now have a PDF properly inserted into your Joomla article.
